I recently listened to a friend of mine speak about the goodness of God. He asked those listening to think of a time that God has been good to them. I couldn’t even think of one specific example to focus on. Many instances came to mind–specifically God’s role in my life as a father who provides.

A father’s role in his children’s lives is to love them, train them, and provide for them.  Provision is something promised to us by God in his Word.

He has proved this to me time and time again. Not only with multiple financial provisions, but with living situations, roommates, jobs, and relationships.

In fact, God has given me the man I always wanted to marry. (I’m going to brag on him a little bit, because he’s my favorite!) Blake has a heart that desires God and he knows his identity in Christ.  He is a man who loves people with a Jesus kind-of-love, a man who understands that marriage is completely unselfish relationship.  He displays the love of the Father by the way he loves and cherishes me!


blakeandwhiteBlake has little characteristics that I always hoped my husband would have. When I knew I wanted to marry Blake, God said to me “
Katie, you wanted a man who loves the ridiculous faces you make, has blue eyes, and who comes up behind you and hugs you around your shoulders while you are doing dishes. I love you…so here ya go!

(I know that may sound sappy to you all, but c’mon! I’m getting married in less than four months!! I’m in love!)

Another example of God’s goodness in my life recently was this past summer. After making an unwise decision (more like a stupid decision), I resigned from my dream teaching job. God showed me immense grace during this difficult time.  I interviewed for another job in a more distinguished district the next week and was offered the job two hours later! It even came with a higher salary than my previous job!

This new job has stretched me and grown me in ways I never thought possible. But God was so good through a time where I could have condemned myself and lost hope. He redeemed me and gave me something better!

We all know the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-27. A son leaves his father, blows through his inheritance, and then comes back to his father to beg for forgiveness. His father runs to him and rejoices that he has returned, and showers him with parties and gifts.

It’s easy to focus on the son and what he did, but the point of this parable is the love of the father. He ran to his son when he was off in the distance, which was totally not appropriate for a man in this day. He didn’t care about being culturally acceptable; he loved his son and was beyond excited for him to return!

What an incredible picture of God our Father! He just wants relationship with us. He wants to shower us with love, gifts, and grace all the time!! God has revealed to me in the last two years how He desires to give me good things!

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?  If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:7-11

goodgoodfather2God the Father is faithful; he wants to care, love, and provide for us! Pastor Joseph Price writes that “Faith is believing that you have a good Father who protects and provides for His children.”  The last year has grown my faith in Him and in turn, my relationship with him! His love and provision continues to blow my mind time and time again.

 
And He will continue to…because that is who my Father is!

Anyways…

At the end of 2014, the Pulse (my church) team had a meeting with Jonathan Welton when he came to speak at a conference. He had the group members ask the Holy Spirit for a specific word for the upcoming year. The Holy Spirit gave me the word IMPACT. (*side note* If you get the chance, you should listen to or read anything by Jonathan Welton. He teaches some life-changing stuff about Biblical covenants!)

Impact.

What did that mean for me? That I would impact people? That I would be impacted by God in some miraculous way? I was excited to see how my understanding of impact would be radically redefined in 2015.

It is now May (!!!) of 2015 and I am reflecting over some impact I’ve been a part of.

 

  • I’ve been able to pray for physical healing for people and see God heal them on the spot! That has impacted them and for sure impacted me. Anytime I see God miraculously work, I am reminded and overwhelmed of his love for his creation.

 

  • My roommates and I pray constantly that our house would be a place where people can come in and just feel the love and peace of God. Several people have told us how they just feel at home when they walk through the doors and don’t know how to describe what they experience (which is totally the Holy Spirit!). We pray continually for that to be the case in our home.

 

  • I’ve gotten words of knowledge and prophetic words for more people. This has been really cool because God has shown me that if I ask him for something to tell someone, he’ll give me something to say. I experienced this when I traveled to San Antonio to visit my sister Jen. I took the time every night to ask the Holy Spirit if he wanted me to say anything to anyone. I was able to encourage three of Jen’s friends without really knowing them at all! I want to continue to listen for God to tell me who to talk to and what to say…because it’s awesome!

 

  • In early September, I was hired as a CSD-SPED middle school teacher to teach kids with autism and support them socially and behaviorally. It has been fantastic. Such a huge challenge but such a rewarding learning experience. So I have definitely been impacted by the kids, by my co-workers, by my administration, and hopefully I’ve had a positive impact on them as well. God has shown me so much about his heart in this first year!

 

  • I’ve been able to encourage and minister to some girls who were discontent in their singleness. Speaking as someone who has been single for a long time, I could talk to them about loving single life and living it to the fullest with the Holy Spirit.

 

  • Then ironically, I started dating someone! That in itself impacts my life in a whole different way! God is so cool in the ways he has shown himself in this new relationship.

 

  • Of course, I am continually impacted by the immense love of the Father. I am constantly growing in the understanding of my identity in him and how much I am favored and loved by God. That makes life undeniably greater!

Those are just a few of the examples of impact that have happened in my life in the last 4 months. Woot woot! I have a goal to write more posts, and probably will be able to now that I will have the summer off! #teacherlife

“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it.”  John 14:12-14

 

In this past week this is what I have seen:

  • Kneecaps completely healed
  • Cartilage restored in knees so the man could bend after not being able to since the 80s
  • A broken foot totally healed…no brace necessary
  • My friend’s bowed legs straightened
  • My roommate’s scoliosis healed…back pain gone!
  • A leg that was shorter than the other grown out
  • A guy with arthritis in his hand healed, saved, and filled with the Holy Spirit!
  • Laughter taking over people’s body for an hour straight
  • People falling, shaking, and jumping in the presence of the Holy Spirit
  • Words of knowledge given to me about my exact situation, given to other people about their situations
  • During a worship song about the fire of the Holy Spirit, the aroma of fire filled the room. There was not a fire to be found near or outside the building.
  • God told my roommate to give a certain person $20, but she didn’t have any cash on her. Someone came up to her and gave HER $20 exactly and she was able to bless the other person!

In this past week I personally have:

  • Given words of  knowledge and encouragement to people I knew nothing about
  • Been told by the Holy Spirit that someone needed healing in their lower right back, which was called out and I prayed for that person and watched God heal them!
  • Given someone money when God told me to. I gave it to them and they said they were literally down to nothing, they were overwhelmed!
  • Been healed of bitterness inside my heart that I was trying to get rid of on my own and couldn’t—He completely took it away!

You may read these things and be skeptical. You think that God doesn’t do these things anymore. Why would that be? Jesus did all of these things in his ministry. The Acts church saw miracles of God manifest all the time! All for God’s glory! In fact, Jesus told his followers that they were supposed to go out and do these things–

Matthew 10:7-8 “As you go, preach this message: The kingdom of heaven is near! Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”

Ephesians 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

Why can we do these things? Because Jesus is IN US!! The power that Jesus had, the power that raised Jesus from the dead is now inside of us!

“I pray also that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but in the one that is to come.” Ephesians 1:18-21

This seriously blows my mind!  When we were saved, we died and he now lives in us (John 14:20). We have his power. Power over every authority–sin, sickness, poverty, depression.  We have his wisdom and his mind (1 Corinthians 9-16)!

When I started to realize the inheritance I have in Christ, that I am his child, his co-heir (Eph. 4-7), his beloved, his masterpiece, and his vessel, I started to see his mighty power manifest through me and around me. He wants to reveal things to us through the Holy Spirit that we would never think possible. I keep reading John 14-17 over and over because I can’t get enough of the fact that because I am in Jesus and he is in me, I have power to do miracles far greater than what Jesus did. He said I would! He commissioned all of us to do greater works than he, all for the glory of God!!

Paul told the church of Corinth (1 Corinthians 14)  that they should desire spiritual gifts, especially prophecy. My world has been changed since moving to Colorado. I started to desire and seek the gifts of tongues and prophecy and knowledge, I began to see these gifts manifest in me through the Holy Spirit. Jesus said he will give us whatever we ask in His name…I asked for the gifts. Now I have begun to prophesy over people I don’t even know. I have been given words of knowledge from the Holy Spirit. I pray in tongues, which edifies me in ways I can’t even explain. I’ve prayed for people to get healed and seen it happen on the spot! God has opened my mind to the unbelievable ways he is able to work through me, if I allow him. And through these things, he fills me with a supernatural joy that I can’t explain or contain!
I urge you to seek these things out for yourself. What does God’s Word say about miraculous signs and wonders that ultimately glorify Him? If you can, watch the film Father of Lights. There is no limit to God’s power and ability, so why would we limit him or doubt him? He is our Father who wants his children to live in health, prosperity, joy, and freedom. Imagine what we could do if we allowed him to work in indescribable ways! I know my life is changing and I don’t want it to stop!!

ImageToday is Guest Blogger Friday! (Ok, I just made that up) Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit of writer’s block when it comes to my blog. I have so much I want to write about, but can’t find any way to say it. So it  was totally God when my sister told me she had wrote a guest-post for me…and a lot of it is what God has been teaching ME too!!

Jen Oskam is a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army, a nurse currently stationed in San Antonio, Texas. She loves Jesus passionately and is always seeking how the Holy Spirit can teach her and use her to love and impact other people. I consider her one of my best friends—she is probably the funniest and most generous person I know. Each time I speak with her, I am super encouraged! I know after reading her honest and real revelations, you will be to!! -Katie

 

 

“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely; whatever is admirable; if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.”

My mind is a battleground. Every day is a constant fight to combat negative feelings and emotions. Satan knows where to target me; feelings of loneliness, rejection, fear, defeat… all the time. I live by myself for the first time in my life, and literally whenever I am home these thoughts creep up almost immediately in the quietness of my apartment.

While living alone has been hard, it has also been an incredible blessing. God has been doing amazing things in my life. In the beginning of this year the Holy Spirit radically changed me. It was like a switch turned on in my spirit and I started craving the Word more than I had ever in my entire life! And from being in the Word, the truth of God started jumping off the pages at me. I get hungrier for the Word the more I read it, and sometimes I wish I could read it and absorb it all at once. It is seriously amazing!

There are certain topics that keep coming up in my reading– words, love, my mind, and the truth. It is hard for me to explain all that I am learning, it just excites me when I see connections between these themes throughout the Bible. Lately I’ve been seeing the significance of knowing the truth. What is truth? I’m not good at philosophy. But I know that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. So every single word in it is true. In fact, the Word is God [John 1:1]. And contrary to the truth of the Word, there are a lot of lies out there. Lies about how to be successful, or happy, or beautiful. Lies about your identity.

You know what is an awesome verse?

To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” [John 8:31-32].

If you have received Jesus Christ as your Savior, then you probably know and believe that your sins are forgiven and therefore you are saved from eternity in hell when you die. But it shouldn’t stop there. There is so much more truth that God has provided in His Word. Truth about who you are in Christ and the authority you have as a believer that will set you free from whatever you are facing. You need to know what is true.

So maybe you are being attacked in an area. God has blessed me with incredible friends who have been encouraging and uplifting and there for me. But I often still feel like I am alone. I can’t explain it; it makes no sense. So I have to combat it with what is true; “…the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” [Deut. 31:6]. The truth is that I am never alone, the living God is always with me, living through me. Praise God!

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” [Heb 4:12].

The only way you can effectively fight against the lies of Satan is to use the truth of God’s Word. There is a constant battle for your mind, so fill your mind with the truth.

Set your mind on things above…” [Col. 3:2]

…the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace” [Rom. 8:6]

I felt attacked today. My sister encouraged me to write down all the good things that God is doing in my life. Let me tell you, shifting my focus to how awesome and loving God is almost immediately changed my thinking. God is amazing. The truth of His Word is amazing. I hope this will encourage someone else.

Hey beautiful people of blog-reader-osphere! (?) I’m taking today’s word from Joseph Prince’s devotional today (http://www.josephprince.com/2014/02/you-are-a-son-and-an-heir-of-god-2/) . I was so blessed when reading it, I had to share!! Remember who you are in Christ..it is so easy to forget what He wants us to have! Most people don’t even realize what he wants for us!

6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Galatians 4:6–7

Perhaps these questions have been popping into your head lately: “If You are a Christian, why are you sick? If your heavenly Father is so wonderful, why do you have so many problems? Doesn’t your God help you, His child?”

And if you have been tempted to ask, “God, I am Your child. Why is this happening to me?” know that Jesus knows exactly how you feel because 2,000 years ago, the devil played the same trick on Him — “If you are the Son of God…” (Matthew 4:3) You see, the devil’s intention was to make Jesus doubt His Sonship, and the devil wants to do the same thing to you today.

He wants to destroy the Spirit of sonship in you and in the body of believers. He knows that once you really believe that you are a son of God, something happens — you begin to live life as “an heir of God through Christ”.

As a son and an heir of God, you inherit all the blessings of God which Jesus died to give you, including salvation, healing, prosperity, wholeness, favor, intimacy with God and answered prayers. And Jesus rose from the dead to make sure that what He died to give you, you get. He is alive today to enforce this rich, blood-bought inheritance in your life!

My friend, you are an heir of God through Christ. This means that you are joint heirs with Jesus. (Romans 8:17) So His inheritance is your inheritance too!

What is prosperity when you are an heir of God? All the diamonds and gold came from Him. What is provision when you are an heir of God? He owns every beast in the forest and the cattle on a thousand hills. (Psalm 50:10) What is healing when you are an heir of God? He is your Creator and the very breath of your life.

Beloved, enjoy every bit of your inheritance in Christ, not because you deserve it, but because it was paid for by Jesus’ blood!

Thought For The Day
As joint heirs with Christ, His inheritance is your inheritance too!
